From Seattle Pilots to Milwaukee, AL to NL
The Milwaukee Brewers have one of baseball’s more unusual origin stories. Founded as the Seattle Pilots in 1969 — they played one season and produced exactly one season of cards, the 1969 Topps Seattle Pilots team set — the franchise relocated to Milwaukee in 1970 to become the Brewers. They played in the American League until 1998, when MLB realignment moved them to the National League Central to balance the leagues.
That history gives the Brewers a three-part collecting story: the single-season Pilots novelty, the 1970-1997 AL Brewers featuring Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, and the 1982 Harvey’s Wallbangers team, and the NL-era Brewers featuring Ryan Braun’s 2007 ROY season, Christian Yelich’s 2018-2019 MVP run, and the current Jackson Chourio-led young core.
For collectors, the Brewers are a mid-tier franchise in terms of card demand but a rising one. Chourio’s 2022 Bowman Chrome Prospect Auto has the profile of a future blue-chip card.
